Work and experience

I have over 45 years of hands-on experience in the carpentry and building industry. My career began with a four-year indentured apprenticeship, laying the foundations for the craft I’ve dedicated my life to. I’m honoured to be recognised as a Fellow of the Institute of Carpenters, a reflection of the skill, precision, and commitment to quality I bring to every project.

Over the decades, I’ve specialised in high-end new builds, renovations and bespoke cabinetry, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern expectations.

What I value most about being part of the team at Dan Cook Carpentry & Building is our shared commitment to excellence. Everyone brings the same determination to complete every project to the highest possible standard. My approach is simple: be meticulous, be honest, and deliver a finish I’d be proud to have in my own home.

Favourite project

One project I’m particularly proud of involved building an entire kitchen from scratch using reclaimed Douglas fir salvaged from an old pair of barn doors.

Transforming weathered timber into beautifully crafted cabinetry captured everything I love about this trade: problem-solving, creativity, and the satisfaction of giving new life to old materials. It’s a great example of how thoughtful craftsmanship can turn something ordinary into something truly special.

Getting to know me

My passion for carpentry began early. Growing up, I spent countless hours in my grandfather’s workshop. He was a master joiner and cabinet maker, and it was under his guidance that I discovered the joy of working with timber.

Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m active and exploring. I’m a big fan of good food, skiing, and travelling, and I even spent ten years living in the Canadian Rockies with my wife and two sons. We made the most of every moment by skiing, hiking, and soaking up the beauty of mountain life.
