Work and Experience
I’ve been working in the carpentry and building industry for over 44 years, and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of honing my craft across a wide variety of projects. From the very beginning, I’ve been passionate about traditional techniques, precision, and taking pride in every detail of my work.
I particularly enjoy cutting roofs, oak framing, fitted furniture, and tackling unusual or bespoke jobs that call for creative problem-solving. Over the years, I’ve achieved a Level 2 qualification in Carpentry, become a Fellow of the Institute of Carpentry, and gained both teaching and assessor qualifications for Level 2 Carpentry.
What I enjoy most about being part of Dan Cook Carpentry & Building is the camaraderie and professionalism of the team. Everyone pulls together, shares knowledge, and takes pride in what we do. My approach to work is simple: always give 100%, be polite and respectful to customers, and provide honest advice to help achieve the best result possible.
Favourite Project
One project that really stands out for me is the renovation of a 1600s property in Totnes. It was an incredible opportunity to work on a building steeped in history, blending careful restoration with quality craftsmanship. Seeing that property brought back to life was a proud moment, and it’s a great example of the standard of work we deliver as a team.
Getting to Know You
Carpentry has always been close to my heart. My dad was a carpenter, and that’s where my journey began. While working as a labourer helping carpenters on-site, I was spotted by a foreman who saw potential in me and offered me a job on the spot. That moment set me on a path that I’ve never looked back from.
Outside of work, I love touring on my motorbike, visiting alternative festivals, going for long walks, watching films, and cooking. And for something a little different, I once recorded two tracks in a music studio!
